21. Jim Thorpe

•  Voted “Greatest Athlete of the First Half of the 20 th Century” by the Associated Press in 1950.

•  In college, he was captain of the football team, 2-time All-American, and led team to the National Collegiate Championship in 1912.

•  Played professional baseball and football for the Canton Bulldogs and were recognized as National Champions in 1916, 1917 and 1919.

•  First president of the American Professional Football Assocation, now called the NFL.
