•  This son of a former slave was a 2 time All-American football player and valedictorian of his 1919 Rutgers class.

•  He became an actor and singer, but was eventually accused of being a Communist and subsequently blacklisted.

•  In the 1990s, he was posthumously inducted into the college Football Hall of Fame.
