3. Jesse Owens

•  Owens' greatest athletic day was at the Big Ten Championship in 1935. In 2 hours, he won 4 events, set world records in 3 of those events and tied the world record in the fourth event.

•  In 1936, he won 4 gold medals at the Berlin Olympics.

•  Jesse Owens was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1976 by Gerald Ford and (posthumously) the Congressional Gold Medal by George H. W. Bush on March 28 , 1990 .
