5. John Wooden

•  M ember of the Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player (Class of 1961) and a coach (Class of 1973). He was the first person enshrined in both categories.

•  In 1947, Wooden's Indiana State basketball team won the conference title and received an invitation to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Basketball Tournament in Kansas City . Wooden refused the invitation citing the Associations's policy banning African American players.

•  As UCLA's head basketball coach, he won 10 national championships.
