M ember of the Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player (Class of 1961) and a coach (Class of 1973). He was the first person enshrined in both categories.
In 1947, Wooden's Indiana State basketball team won the conference title and received an invitation to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Basketball Tournament in Kansas City . Wooden refused the invitation citing the Associations's policy banning African American players.
As UCLA's head basketball coach, he won 10 national championships. |
