REPORT
OF THE
NCAA
DIVISION I BASEBALL COMMITTEE
INFORMATIONAL
ITEMS.
1.
College
World Series of Omaha, Inc. College World Series of Omaha, Inc.
provided the committee with an overview and timeline of the future stadium evaluation
process. All current Rosenblatt
Stadium maintenance projects were reviewed. The committee was also presented with
the coaches’ survey results from the 2007 Men’s College World
Series. City of Omaha
representatives discussed potential clean zone policies/ordinances for the 2008
Men’s College World Series.

Men’s
College World Series Ticket Initiative Report. NCAA staff provided
the committee with an update on discussions with ticket and hospitality
agencies regarding the Men’s College World Series and potential
initiatives (ticket exchange, hospitality and advance sale).
3.
ESPN. The committee met
with representatives from the ESPN production and programming staffs to discuss
television issues relating to the 2008 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.

Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

received an update from

Baseball
Rules. The
committee received an update on baseball rules changes for the 2007-08 season. The committee expressed a strong desire
to have the Baseball Issues Committee review ways to speed up the pace of play. The committee feels that length of
collegiate baseball games may be having a negative impact on college baseball.

Rating
Percentage Index (RPI). The
committee agreed to include the University of South Carolina Upstate and
Florida Gulf Coast University as a Division I opponent for purposes of RPI
calculations. The committee also
approved the release of the RPI on the dates of April 23, April 30, May 7, May
14 and May 21 of 2008.

Miscellaneous
Committee Issues. After
discussion the committee determined that during the selection process, when
using a poll vote to determine selection to the bracket no more than 50 percent
of the bracket can be voted in on any one vote. The committee also determined that
during super regional competition, the coin flip to determine the home team for
the third game must take place during the mandatory prechampionship meeting.
9.
Baseball
Academic Enhancement Working Group.
The committee received an update on the status of the
override to the Baseball Academic Enhancement Working Group’s legislation
to improve academic performance in Division I baseball.
