REPORT
OF THE
NCAA
MEN’S AND WOMEN’S RIFLE COMMITTEE
ACTION ITEM.
Date
Formula.
1.
Recommendation. That the date formula for the National
Collegiate Men’s and Women’s Rifle Championships be moved from the
second Friday-Saturday in the month of March to the first Friday-Saturday in
the month of March, effective with the 2010 championships.
2. Rationale.
Currently, there are four weeks between the last match that is used
for qualifying and the championships. This amount of time was needed when
the NCAA used a third party to calculate all results from the designated
qualifier. The NCAA now compiles all the results from the regular season
and designated qualifier instead of using an outside party and with the use of e-mail,
rather than using overnight delivery, the steps have now been streamlined to
make selections a faster process. The committee believes that teams and individuals
would fare better with less time between their last matches and the championships.
3. Estimated
Budget Impact. None.
4. Student-Athlete
Impact. The student-athletes
would have an additional week back for their own use.
