Report of the
NCAA MEN’S AND Women’s SKIING Committee
ACTION
ITEM.
Regional Allocations.
1. Recommendation. That the “total field” method for calculating earned regional allocations be adopted, effective with the 2009 championships.
2. Rationale. The current method for calculating earned regional allocations is based on the top 20 finishers in each race at the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Skiing Championships. A two-year cycle is used to include a site from the East (at sea-level) and West (at altitude) each time. The total field method will consider results from all student-athletes that start each individual race [any student-athletes that do not finish (DNF) or are disqualified (DSQ) will be considered in the calculations]. The total field method will better reflect and reward regional achievement in awarding earned spots. The calculations will continue to be based on a two-year cycle of results at NCAA championships.
3. Estimated Budget Impact. None.
4. Student-Athlete Impact. None.
